Free Festival Tickets for Young and Enquiring Minds at the
Words by the Water Festival of Words and Ideas
_____________________________________________________________
Young people will be able to attend the Words by the Water Festival of Words and Ideas for free this March, thanks to a new bursary scheme introduced by festival organisers. Anyone between the ages of 17-25 may apply for a place on the bursary scheme and successful applicants will be given tickets to see up to ten events of their choice.
The Words by the Water festival runs from 2-11 March 2012 at Theatre by the Lake, Keswick. This year’s programme features over 100 different events including talks, discussions and performances by the UK’s top writers, politicians, broadcasters and comedians.
Festival Directors Kay Dunbar and Stephen Bristow already run a similar bursary scheme at the Ways With Words Festival of Words and Ideas at Dartington Hall, Devon. It has proved a great success encouraging and enabling hundreds of young people to attend the festival over the years.
As Kay Dunbar explains: “The bursary scheme is for youngsters who are passionate about writing and new ideas; excited about art, travel, philosophy, politics and current affairs; or simply seeking inspiration. It’s a brilliant opportunity to engage with new ideas and the people who take part in the bursary scheme have a great time”.
There are lots of reasons to apply for a place on the bursary scheme at Words by the Water this year including:
- Simon Watt, Channel 4’s presenter of Inside Nature’s Giants, on Natural History as you’ve never seen it before
- Mark Logue and Peter Conradi reveal the truth behind the Oscar winning ‘The Kings Speech’
- Gavin Pretor-Pinney, author of the best-selling ‘The Cloud Spotter’s Guide’, on clouds that look like things
- Stanley Wells discusses Shakespeare on sex and love
- Bob Marshall-Andrews and Chris Mullin on the state of British politics
- Mihir Bose and Chris Cooper talk sport; how sport has changed the modern world and the science behind drugs in sport
PLUS:
- Comedy from Josie Long and Shappi Khorsandi
- Topical themed days including Money Matters, Charles Dickens and Exploration
- Poetry and essay competitions
The full programme is available online.
